Back-to-School Season Boosts JBF Franchise Owner’s Earnings

Recent survey finds nearly 90% of families will shop consignment for back-to-school

For Just Between Friends franchisees, there’s no better time of year than the summer’s end through the fall. Back-to-school season brings families to JBF sales in droves, which translates into more consignors, more inventory, bigger sales, more shoppers, and higher revenue potential.

Collectively families in the U.S. will spend $83 billion on clothing, gear, supplies and electronics for back-to-school. The cost per child has risen to nearly $700, according to the National Retail Federation. Back-to-school shopping season is one of the biggest retail shopping seasons of the year, second only to the Christmas holiday, according to the National Retail Federation.
Just Between Friends recently surveyed more than 1,000 families about their back-to-school shopping habits and found nearly 90% plan to shop consignment or resale for back to school. Most will buy at least 50% of their items at a resale store or consignment event. Some other key findings include:
  •      Nearly 80% have shopped consignment/resale in the past
  •      Nearly 50% say they save 75% or more shopping consignment and resale
  •      Nearly 60% have been shopping resale for back-to-school for more than three years
  •      More than 60% plan to sell items at consignment events or online to make money for back-to-school

“As families get ready to send the kids back to school, they start adding up the costs and realize that second-hand is the way to go,” says Shannon Wilburn, co-founder and CEO of Just Between Friends. “Each year, our fall consignment sales shatter attendance and revenue records because communities demand what we offer — high quality, gently used kids’ items and clothing at an affordable price. The best part is that through our sales, families can save and make money, which is an incredible help at a time of year when they have back-to-school expenses, which come to more than $500 for many.”

JBF helps more than 1 million families save money

JBF’s business model is based on altruism. Since our start, our franchisees have helped more than 1 million families nationwide save money on buying children’s clothing, games, toys, maternity and baby gear.

“One of the most amazing things that our owners can do is empower the community,” says Dawn Pfannenstiel, Director of Training and Support with Just Between Friends. “We’re able to bring recognition to our nonprofits; we’re able to help them with their mission. We give families in the community an outlet to make more money for their families, to help with that bottom line, and to help with that budget. There’s nothing more empowering than mailing those consignment checks because you know the benefit and the positives of what those families will do with that money.”
